Bruce Silverstein is proud to present select works by Trine Søndergaard from her newest body of work, Hovedtøj. The contemporary artist continues to explore Danish cultural history through its rich tradition of textiles, specifically those made by and for women. Søndergaard was granted access to the prized collection of 19th century hats, bonnets, head scarves and clasps from the Skive Museum in Denmark where she photographed the treasured pieces modeled by friends. In contrast with the historical head garments, Søndergaard invited her models to wear contemporary clothing of their preference, creating a distinct juxtaposition. These photographs are currently on view for the first time in the artist's solo exhibition at the Skive Museum, accompanied by highlights from previous series, Guldnakke (2012) and Lace (2015).
