MARTIN DENKER

German, b. 1976

Educated at the Art Academy of Dusseldorf under Thomas Ruff, Denker was an assistant to Andreas Gursky until he decided to concentrate on his own work in 2002. Inspired by music sampling techniques used by deejays, his work depicts his life experiences through giant collages, which are comprised of multiple layers of imagery. Denker’s unconventional style attempts to draw the viewer in through a modification of optical perceptions into new time-space situations. His psychedelic use of interwoven imagery can be compared to the likes of Robert Rauschenberg and Takashi Murakami.
